The Syrian British Medical Society (SBMS) is a professional, humanitarian, and educational organisation dedicated to supporting Syrian healthcare professionals in the UK and abroad, while improving healthcare outcomes for communities affected by conflict and displacement. We bring together a network of doctors, dentists, pharmacists, allied health professionals, and academics committed to excellence, collaboration, and compassion.
We provide access to high-quality training, courses, and workshops across the UK and internationally. Our programmes are designed to support continuous professional development and academic progression, offered at accessible and discounted rates.
SBMS connects members with leading medical organisations worldwide, enabling knowledge exchange, mentorship, and career advancement while maintaining the highest scientific and clinical standards.
We foster a strong sense of belonging through social events, networking opportunities, and cultural initiatives that celebrate our shared Syrian heritage and strengthen professional bonds.
Both during the Syria conflict after, we have engaged on advocacy for various topics, both publicly and behind closed doors. We have also supported advocacy around the rights of Syrian refugee or IMG healthcare workers, Syrian healthcare workers in the UK and in Syria and for equitable access to healthcare for all Syrians.
We have supported healthcare in Syria before the conflict with many of our members contributing directly to health and humanitarian aid. We continue to support healthcare in Syria through medical missions, education and training and donations.
SBMS contributes to rebuilding and strengthening healthcare systems in Syria and neighbouring regions by addressing critical gaps, supporting infrastructure development, and promoting sustainable care delivery.
